Oliver Stone's provocative and fascinating look at Latin America at the end of the Bush era and the beginning of the Obama administration, should be viewed by anyone interested in understanding both our difficult history and ongoing struggles with our Latin American neighbors. Stone takes us on a journey through Venezuela, Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador, and Brazil in 2008 and 2009 bringing us face to face with their respective leaders and gives us glimpses of their human sides. Here we learn that things may not be as we have been necessarily told in the mass media with respect to Hugo Chavez and Venezuela and our U.S. involvement in the coup attempt of 2002. Each leader expresses solidarity with his/her counterparts in a common theme of seeking to grow and develop each nation independently of U.S. and european interests, seeking to find their own way. Very interesting and well done. The comments on American media were apt and informative. It was refreshing to see Chavez and other South American leaders through a different lens.

A wealth of information and optimism about the growing tide of people's movements in Latin America. You will never get this information through the corporate media. And it's fun to watch as well. Done in cinema verite, wobbly cameras and all but well thought out and amusing. Easy to watch. Historic footage obviously gotten with difficulty that informs. It will rock your world. Teachers, get the dvd when it comes out and show it to your classes. Your students need the information. We all do.

Be prepared to have your view of the United States government and the United States media in this film. This movie makes clear how corporate-owned our politicians are. When there was a military coupe d'Etat in Venezuela, it was trumpted by the New York Times as the overthrow of evil dictator Hugo Chavez. However, 3 days later, the people of Venezuela overthrew the military and re-installed the democratically elected Hugo Chavez. The New York Times had egg all over their face and had to recant their propaganda. I was working for an Export company in Seattle when this Coupe d'etat and the ports were closed in Venezuela. It was surreal to hear years later about what really happened because the story was barely covered in the United States. This movie covers it all. When Hugo Chavez took control of the oil companies who were trying to destroy his presidency by wrecking the economy, he turned around the country completely. BIG OIL lost and the people of Veneuela won.
